Paid Readiness Review
Every full-length book begins with a Paid Readiness Review.
During this initial phase, I assess the materials represented as available, clarify the book’s reader and central promise, evaluate the interview and research burden, identify important gaps, and define the proposed division of labor. Full manuscript drafting begins only after the project specification, fee, schedule, source-material assumptions, and responsibilities are confirmed in writing.
If the materials or proposed book are substantially different from what was described during the inquiry process, we may revise the scope and fee, phase the work differently, or conclude the engagement after the Readiness Review.
What May Be Included in a Full-Length Engagement
The specific services, deliverables, interview allowances, research requirements, revision rounds, and publishing support included in each project are identified in the written agreement.

Credited Collaboration ("As Told To" or "With" Deborah Holmen)
I selectively accept credited collaborations when the project, author, source material, working relationship, and intended publishing path make visible authorship credit appropriate.
A credited collaboration is not a discounted form of ghostwriting. The professional fee reflects the actual interviewing, research, architecture, writing, integration, and revision required. Unless a separate written agreement expressly provides otherwise, credited collaboration does not create joint copyright ownership, a partnership, or an entitlement to royalties or other publishing income.
Cover, title-page, metadata, publicity, portfolio, and downstream publishing credit are addressed in the written agreement.
Payment Structure
Full-length book projects are billed through defined project phases and milestone payments. The exact number, amount, earning event, and due date of each payment are stated in the project agreement. The initial payment reserves calendar capacity and begins the contracted Readiness Review. Later payments are due before the applicable phase begins.
Additional work is not authorized by an informal conversation or the delivery of new materials. Any material expansion requires written approval of the resulting fee and schedule change.
Project Timeline
Each project is unique and requires a customized timeline. Each engagement includes the interviews, research, drafting, revisions, and deliverables specified in the written agreement. Requests that materially expand the book’s length, subject matter, research, interviews, source development, or revision requirements may require a written change order, additional fee, and revised schedule.
Timeline. Most full-length book engagements require approximately six to twelve months from the completion of the Readiness Review through final manuscript delivery. Timing depends on manuscript length, source readiness, research and interview requirements, the author’s availability, timely consolidated feedback, and whether the project’s direction changes. The project agreement will contain the controlling schedule.
